The Lyons-Muir Church has a unique history. We formed in 1989 by the merger of two long-standing local congregations: the Presbyterian Church of Muir and the United Methodist Church of Lyons. After worshipping in both church buildings alternatively, we discerned that God was calling us to something completely new. So in the mid 1990s, we began searching for a place to call home. God led us to our current location just outside of the village of Muir, and we began plans to construct a new church building.
Our worship is a mix of traditional and contemporary styles. We open every week with a Praise Band leading the congregation in contemporary praise songs. The balance of the service leans more traditional. On the second Sunday of each month we lean more contemporary. Preaching is biblically based and presented in a conversational style that brings the congregation into active participation. We offer a nursery for younger children as well as weekly special programming for children during our worship service. Church can happen anywhere. It happens when we create learning opportunities that transform lives. It happens when we create safe environments where children can play and learn. It happens when education makes the path to citizenship a little easier. And when our sacrifices help nourish students’ minds and bodies. That’s putting beliefs into action.
